Introduction
Après avoir passé quelques jours à rendre visite à des amis à Manchester, il était temps de descendre à Londres pour prendre mon vol de retour. Reliant ces deux grandes villes en environ deux heures, le service de train à grande vitesse d'Avanti West Coast semblait être l'option la plus rapide et la plus pratique. Dans cet article, je partagerai mon expérience à bord et offrirai quelques conseils utiles pour profiter au maximum de ce rapide voyage de 2 heures.
Aperçu de l'itinéraire
Manchester et Londres sont séparées d'environ 200 miles (320 kilomètres), et il existe de nombreuses façons de voyager entre elles, y compris le train, le bus et l'avion. Le train est généralement l'option la plus rapide et la plus pratique, bien qu'il puisse souvent être le plus cher. Pour trouver la meilleure offre et le meilleur temps de trajet pour vos besoins, je recommande d'utiliser Omio pour comparer toutes les options de transport en un seul endroit.
Expérience de transport
Prendre le train au Royaume-Uni est généralement une expérience fluide et simple. Les services vers Londres partent de la gare de Manchester Piccadilly, située au centre-ville et bien desservie par le Metrolink. Une fois à la gare, il suffit de consulter le tableau des départs, de trouver votre quai et de monter à bord. Deux heures plus tard, vous arriverez à Londres Euston, en plein cœur de la capitale, avec d'excellentes connexions de métro vers le reste de la ville.

Tous les services vers Londres partent de Manchester Piccadilly, le principal hub ferroviaire de la ville. La gare dispose de nombreux magasins et d'une aire de restauration au premier étage. Les trains pour Londres commencent généralement ici et sont généralement disponibles pour l'embarquement environ 15 minutes avant le départ. Si vous n'avez pas de réservation de siège, trouver une place libre est rarement un problème, surtout si vous montez à bord tôt.

Les services Avanti arrivent à Londres Euston. Vous remarquerez qu'il a des plafonds bas et un éclairage tamisé, mais il est bien desservi par le métro et les lignes de bus. De là, il est très facile de continuer votre voyage à travers la ville.
Horaire et fréquence
Il y a généralement trois trains directs Avanti West Coast par heure vers Londres Euston, opérant sur deux itinéraires principaux :
- 2 trains par heure via Stoke-on-Trent (rapide : 2h06m / semi-rapide : 2h12m)
- 1 train par heure via Crewe (environ 2h14m)
Aux heures de pointe, des départs supplémentaires et des trains à arrêts limités plus rapides sont en service. Par exemple, un départ à 7h00 termine le trajet en seulement 1 heure et 59 minutes.
D'autres options incluent des trains régionaux plus lents, avec un changement à Crewe et des bus fréquents, donc il y a toujours un départ qui convient à votre emploi du temps.
Expérience à bord et services
J'ai pris le service légèrement plus lent via Crewe car il était moins cher. Si vous êtes un passionné de chemins de fer, je recommande cet itinéraire, car il passe près d'une grande collection de trains patrimoniaux près de Crewe.
Je suis arrivé à Piccadilly environ 15 minutes en avance, et mon train Pendolino était déjà sur le quai.

Ces trains existent en versions 9 voitures et 11 voitures. Les modèles de 11 voitures ont plus de places en seconde classe. Si vous n'avez pas de réservation de siège, il est utile de savoir que :
- Sur les trains de 11 voitures : les voitures C, G et U sont non réservées.
- Sur les trains de 9 voitures : seule la voiture C est non réservée.
Cependant, dans n'importe quelle voiture, vous pouvez toujours chercher des places vides, qui sont indiquées par les affichages de réservation au-dessus de chaque siège.
Des porte-bagages sont disponibles dans tout le train, et il n'y a pas de restrictions, donc vous pouvez apporter autant que vous pouvez raisonnablement porter vous-même.

J'ai voyagé en Standard Premium, qui est essentiellement la première classe sans accès au salon ni nourriture gratuite à bord. C'est moins cher que la première classe complète et souvent cela vaut la peine de surclasser pour plus d'espace et de confort.

Peu importe que vous voyagiez en Standard, Standard Premium ou Première Classe, vous aurez accès à :
- Wi-Fi gratuit (bien que la couverture puisse être inégale par moments).
- Une prise de courant à votre siège.
- Un bistro à bord de style à emporter, proposant des sandwiches, des collations et une sélection de boissons chaudes et froides.
Environ une demi-heure après le départ, le train s'arrête à Crewe. Gardez un œil sur les trains patrimoniaux sur le côté droit.

À Crewe, le train rejoint la ligne principale de la côte ouest, où il peut atteindre des vitesses maximales de 125 mph. Ces trains Pendolino utilisent une technologie d'inclinaison dans les courbes, ce qui leur permet d'aller plus vite que les trains réguliers. Cependant, cela peut provoquer des nausées pour certains passagers. L'itinéraire passe principalement par des terres agricoles plates avant de devenir de plus en plus urbain à l'approche de Londres.
Nous sommes arrivés à Londres Euston avec seulement cinq minutes de retard, concluant un voyage simple et fluide.
